All downloads are now on Citrix ShareFile.

Please ignore the Filename displayed for the download. WordPress is showing the ShareFile link and not the filename of the download.

All current documentation scripts require PowerShell Version 3 or later and create a Microsoft Word 2010, 2013, or 2016/2019/Word O365 document.

Most documentation scripts will also create formatted text and HTML output so Microsoft Word is not required.

*****All scripts perform best with PowerShell Version 5*****

Greetings,

I keep meaning to post this but never do. Here is a link to the PDF from the two sessions I gave for the awesome Norway Citrix User Group (CUG). If you ever get invited to speak to this amazing group, do not turn down the offer. The group treats its guest speakers like royalty. Even though most of the sessions are in Norwegian, most of us attend events like this for the networking (and for some of you, the alcohol). I was originally scheduled to deliver these two sessions at their spring event but United Airlines did their best to keep me away, and they won. The Norway CUG was generous enough to invite me to speak at their Fall event. This time United Airlines cooperated and I made it to Oslo.

Side note: If you ever get a chance to go to Oslo or Norway, please go. The country, people, and food are wonderful. I believe Norwegians speak better English than most Americans do. The Norwegians I met on this trip and a previous trip were very polite and helpful. Everyone was helpful to this country boy who is not familiar with buses or trains or buying tickets for public transportation.

I gave back-to-back sessions. The first was 10 Things in AD talk, updated for 2016, and then (re)Building Your Active Directory. The PDF is both slide decks combined.

Those who attended my session came away with the following information:

  • Domain and Forest Functional Levels
  • Sites and Services: Global Catalog
  • Sites and Services: Connection Objects
  • Sites and Services: Subnets
  • DNS Reverse Lookup Zones
  • Duplicate DNS Entries
  • Orphaned Domain Controllers
  • Authoritative Time Server
  • Domain Controller DNS IP Configuration Settings
  • Active Directory Design Guidelines
  • Who to ignore
  • Why a (re)design may be required
  • The options for a (re)design
  • The pros and cons of a (re)design
  • What items to consider
  • The mandatory requirements
  • And much more

I would like to thank the following people for their help in putting together the information and for verifying its accuracy.

Michael B. Smith, “Office Servers and Services” with a specialty in Exchange MVP, https://www.essential.exchange/blog/

Brian Desmond, Identity and Access Management MVP, http://BrianDesmond.com

A lot of the information in the second session comes from chapters 11, 13, 14 and 15 in Designing, Deploying, and Running Active Directory 5th Edition from O’Reilly Press. O’Reilly Press offers a discount code to buy this book direct from them at http://www.oreilly.com. Use code USRG for your discount.
